Looking back at my Digital Story, I was a bit frustrated by my own technical difficulties. Initially, I took video recordings and still photos using my tablet, I really liked the footage that I got, but then I had a difficult time getting the video formats to convert to what I needed for movie maker. Because I couldn't use any of the original video, I had to retake all the video and although I wasn't quite as pleased, it worked okay.
Content-wise, with more time, I would have made it a little bit tighter. I did like the music selections and felt that they conveyed the feeling I was going for.
I have done some digital story (re)telling with my students, you can see our retelling of Mercy Watson to the Rescue here: http://voicethread.com/share/1746989/ Something like this is much more fun and engaging for the students than the type of digital story I presented at class.
Ultimately, I think it depends on the objectives and the audience. The beauty of the digital story is that it can fill many, many different roles.

ReplyDeleteI can understand how frustrating it can be with technology as difficulties always seem to come up. I have always learned a lot from your "tech support" throughout our classes. I remember you showing us the thread stories and think that those are a really neat way to present stories for children at the preschool age as well. I think the story you showed in class was great, too! I actually like your children's way of doing attendance, by having your helper point to each child, that I started doing it that way the very next day! My children now love jumping up and sitting down when they are tapped and they are very helpful to each other in finding the correct number on the chart. Thanks for the great idea!
Aww, thanks Jen. This is the first year that I started having the students count how many friends are there each day and they really love it. One thing that I've really noticed growth in that area is that now they are remembering to count themselves -- they never counted themselves at the beginning, but they've learned now that they also need to be counted.
ReplyDeleteThis is also the first year that I've been counting our days in school (for the 3 day students), and they really love that -- and seeing the pattern emerge on the wall -- between the yellow and red apples and the whole apples and the cores -- they are having a ball. :)
