Reflection on Instructional Strategy

Our group used the internet to teach students about the letters in their name.   It was an age appropriate activity engaging students in an exploration about something that they care a lot about.  Students from a very young age enjoy learning about themselves beginning with their name.   By using StarFall, students would be able to explore the sounds of the letters in their name.   Differenting the learning can easily be done by teacher scaffolding for students needing more help and adding last names to the students who are able to handle more than just their first name.

  1. I loved watching this early childhood presentation! Throughout this entire program, you, Jen, Jen, and Dawn have provided me with such an enlightened perspective about the abilities of little people and where they come from! I can't imagine how engaging StarFall must be for them. It was amazing to see how you evolved your "low-tech" letter recognition (which by the way, still looked like great fun to me) to your "high-tech" version! This makes me want to challenge myself to bump up some of my low tech assignments. Definitely an inspiration!

  2. I also really enjoyed this presentation! It made me wish that I could go through school all over again to experience all the fun new ways early childhood teachers are engaging students in the classroom. Whenever I see you, Jen and Dawn present, I am reminded of the projects I did when I was a little one in school. Somewhere along the line, a lot of fun seems to get taken out of the classroom between pre-k and 8th grade. Your presentations inspire me to look even harder for ways to make learning fun in my classroom.

  3. I tend to agree with the other two- you guys did an awesome job. I have to admit that it truly is impressive what you guys do with the 'little ones.' I think that many would say that they are too young, or that you don't have a computer in the room- so why bother. It just isn't your style- you are a technological genius and you are truly technologically literate. I think that your students are fortunate to have you- because you are willing to bring technology to them- even if the school doesn't supply it. And I believe that your students will be better for it.
